Founder and Chief Executive Officer
Michael Mullin is the founder and CEO of Nevada HAND, in operation since 1993. Prior to founding Nevada HAND, Michael spent 14 years as a residential and commercial real estate broker with Prudential Americana Group Realtors, the largest real estate company in Nevada. Michael specialized in the disposition of real estate owned properties and transacted over $90 million in real estate sales. Michael is a graduate of the Builder’s Institute (GBI) offered by the Lied Institute of the University of Nevada Las Vegas. He has served as chair of the Affordable Housing Advisory Council to the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco. Michael currently serves on the board of directors of the Housing Partnership Network, a member-driven collaborative of 100 of the nation’s leading nonprofit developers and lenders.
Chief Financial Officer/Chief Operating Officer
Margaret A. (Peg) Freman
Peg Freman is responsible for the planning, budgeting and management of organizational strategy and direction, including the long-term financial growth and sustainability of Nevada HAND and its affiliate companies. Peg also oversees the development and implementation of technology programs, organizational policies, procedures and reporting systems. She joined Nevada HAND in 2002. Peg has over 30 years in accounting, finance, IT and corporate administration, beginning her career at Price Waterhouse in Los Angeles. Prior to joining Nevada HAND, she served as chief financial officer for several organizations including Houlihan, Lokey, Howard and Zukin, Inc. and On Stage Entertainment, Inc.Peg holds a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Indiana University, Bloomington where she graduated with honors. She received her certification as a CPA from the state of California in 1982.
Executive Vice President of HAND Construction
Robert (Bob) Feibleman
Bob Feibleman oversees all of Nevada HAND’s construction activities, as well as design, engineering and entitlement processing. He joined Nevada HAND in 1998. Bob has over 30 years of construction and development experience. Prior to joining Nevada HAND, he was the construction manager for Pacific Harbor Capital (PHC). Bob holds a bachelor’s degree in real estate finance with a minor study in architecture from the University of Oregon. He has held general contractor licenses in California, Oregon and Nevada.
Executive Vice President – Real Estate Development
Michael Shohet joined Nevada HAND 2017 as Executive Vice President leading its real estate development efforts. He is responsible for sourcing and executing new development projects. Mike has 20 years of experience in real estate development, construction, engineering, and project management. Prior to joining Nevada HAND, Mike was a vice president at Jones Lang LaSalle Project and Development Management business in Las Vegas. He was also vice president of development for Territory Incorporated where he developed over one million square feet of commercial projects throughout Las Vegas. He has been an active member of the Southern Nevada chapter of NAIOP since 2005. Michael has a Bachelor of Applied Science in civil engineering from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario and a Masters of Business Administration from the UCLA Anderson School of Management.
Vice President of Human Resources
Karen Whiteley joined Nevada HAND in 2012, with more than 25 years of experience in human resources and business operations. She oversees all human resources functions to align with business strategies and organizational culture. Before joining Nevada HAND, Karen was vice president of human resources at the Palms Casino Resort, Rio All Suite Casino Hotel, and Station Casinos. She has also served as a talent management consultant with Rapport Leadership International. Karen attended the University of Nevada Las Vegas where she pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in business management.
Vice President of Resident Services
Kevin Sharps is responsible for the development and implementation of supportive services to Nevada HAND’s residents. His primary focus is on providing programing that enhances economic stability, supports success in school, promotes healthy lifestyles, and encourages community engagement. Kevin joined Nevada HAND in 2017, and brings a wealth of experience in nonprofit leadership, with a career dedicated to improving the lives of homeless and low-income populations. Kevin earned his B.A. at the University of Georgia and his Master of Public Administration from the University of San Francisco.
Vice President of HAND Senior Living
Robert Colbert is responsible for the planning and operations of two affordable assisted living facilities; Silver Sky and Silver Sky at Deer Springs. He joined Nevada HAND in 2012. Robert has 12 years of experience in the senior living industry. Before joining Nevada HAND, Robert served as the regional director of clinical services for Bonaventure Senior Living as well as the regional director of quality and clinical services for Assisted Living Concepts. Robert has provided both clinical and operational oversight in numerous senior living communities in the Western United States. He holds a Bachelor of Science in social services from Portland State University and a nursing degree from the Cleveland Clinic Huron School of Nursing. Robert is a registered nurse in the state of Nevada as well as a licensed residential facility administrator.
Vice President of Asset Management
Kathy Carpenter joined Nevada HAND as controller in 2011 and is responsible for maximizing returns and property values for the owners and investors of Nevada HAND properties. Kathy has over 30 years of accounting and finance experience with companies such as International House of Pancakes, Inc., Cheesecake Factory, Inc., KPMG Peat Marwick LLP and On Stage Entertainment, Inc. Prior to joining Nevada HAND, she served as the controller for Sysco Las Vegas, Inc., a leading distributor of food and restaurant supplies in Southern Nevada and Southern Utah regions. Kathy holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Utah.
Vice President of Resource Development
Lucy Klinkhammer joined Nevada HAND in 2016 and oversees resource development, fundraising, and communications. Her professional background includes over 25 years in nonprofit management, fundraising and community relations. Her experience includes capital, annual and major giving campaigns; event planning; communications; as well as leadership roles with start-up programs. Prior to joining HAND, Lucy served as vice president of development at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts, associate vice president community relations for The Lincy Institute at UNLV, associate vice president for development operations, and corporate secretary for the UNLV Foundation. She has held leadership positions with the Association of Fundraising Professionals – Las Vegas Chapter. Lucy holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Nevada Las Vegas and is an active member of the UNLV Alumni Association.
Megan Schimick joined Nevada HAND in 2016 and is responsible for the financial and accounting reporting of the organization. Megan has over 16 years of accounting and finance experience, beginning her career with Kafoury, Armstrong & Co. Prior to joining Nevada HAND, Megan served as a Partner with Eide Bailly LLP overseeing the Las Vegas tax department. Megan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration with a major emphasis in accounting from the University of Nevada Las Vegas as well as a Master of Science degree in taxation from Golden Gate University. She is a CPA licensed in the state of Nevada.
Director of Property Management
Scott Morehouse oversees the management and operations of Nevada HAND’s property management department. This includes directly monitoring all property management activities of the organization to ensure success through effective use of staff resources, operational and capital budgets, contract procurement and oversight, regulatory compliance, and the consistent delivery of Nevada HAND’s mission to improve lives. His background includes more than 30 years of experience in property management, customer service, facilities and maintenance/construction management. Scott joined Nevada HAND in 2011 serving as the director of facilities for HAND Senior Living and then director of maintenance and safety for HAND Property Management. Prior to joining Nevada HAND, Scott served as the facilities and property management administrator for Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada.
Director of Real Estate Development
David Paull is responsible for overseeing real estate development, portfolio financing, and acquisitions. Since joining Nevada HAND in 2011, he has overseen the development of 10 new affordable housing communities, totaling over $156 million, which have improved the lives of over 1,600 individuals. Prior to joining Nevada HAND, David spent 8 years with the Bixby Land Company and the Irvine Company in Irvine, CA. During that time, he underwrote more than $5 billion in successful acquisitions and development. His focus included working with institutional investment partners to secure capital for new acquisitions and developments. He currently serves on the Housing Task Group for Henderson Strong, an organization that makes policy recommendations to the Henderson City Council for Henderson’s ten-year plan. Additionally, he serves as a member of the Governor’s Interagency Council on Homelessness. David received a Bachelor of Arts in business administration from Concordia University in Irvine, California.
Director of Information Technology
Julie Chang oversees the planning, organizing, project coordination and execution of all the functions related to information technology (IT). Julie has served as Nevada HAND’s IT Consultant since 2004, joining Nevada HAND in 2007, and was initially responsible for implementing the organization’s first IT department. She has more than 15 years of experience in the IT industry. Throughout her career, she has held numerous IT roles for various companies including Goldman Sachs and Avon Products, Inc. Julie attended Queens College and pursued a Bachelor of Science in computer science from the State University of New York of Old Westbury.
Director of Communications
Mark Zellmer oversees the development and production of print and electronic communication materials for both internal and external audiences, along with the development and implementation of social media strategies to disseminate organizational messaging. Mark joined Nevada HAND in 2013 as director of resident services, transitioning to communications in 2016. He brings more than 20 years of experience providing and managing community nonprofit services for a variety of target populations and service types. Prior to joining Nevada HAND, Mark served as the director of senior services for Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada. He holds a Bachelor of Science in psychology and sociology from Morningside College.
